Manufacture date

View Full Version: I live in Massachusetts, where Glock pistols are evil, dangerous creatures unless they were made before this date. I only recently learned that you could bring Glocks into the state as long as they were manufactured before the cut off date. I'm trying to find a Glock 26 for my cousin right now. Short of calling everyone selling one on GunsAmerica, GunBroker, etc and checking the serial numbers, can anyone suggest a quicker way to find older Glock pistols?

I'll do it the brute force way to save him a couple hundred bucks, but there must be a quicker way. Thanks all. Just curious, but is there some reason given for that exact date? Tried google, but noone seems to have a reason, just "their bad". My guess is a grandfather clause when the law was passed. Yup, that's it exactly. So basically you should be good to go if you get a gen-three G that doesn't have the rough textured frame or chevron slide marks.

Honestly, are they really going to run the numbers on the gun to see if you have a Gen vs 4?? If you are that concerned, look for one that doesn't have finger grooves though I think the 26s all did and you've got an older model. If you want I can look around with some of my dealers. I've never noticed a date of manufacture on any of my little plastic guns and so they'd probably have to run the serial number against some database as to when the gun was made. I don't know any officer at a gun range or a traffic stop that's that hard up that they'll take the time to do that, especially if you say "this old thing?

Early model Gen III". Just did another quick search, turns out that the earlier model 26s had "smooth" finger grooves with no texturing. They all have finger grooves. I got a glock 19 that I bought around that time period. I don't use it since I carry a something else for off duty use. No date, have to run the serial number. Another thing, if they still have the origional box and paperwork look for the two test rounds.

The envelope will have the date collected. If I shot someone and wound up in court? Short of that, no, but I follow stuff like this to the letter. The dates on the finger grooves and what not will probably help me do a quick and dirty check on them. Short of that I'll be checking all the serial numbers thanks ktek. It used to be a little more user friendly, now apparently you have to submit and wait for an email. Wow, they don't even say what the reasoning is behind banning them?

I'll try poking around the web a little later today, because I know there once was a Glocksmith that had a website with all the different varieties of Glocks listed and how to tell one GEN from another. If I find it again, I'll point it out for you. He also had online disassembly guides too. Democratic Republic of Massachusetts, they don't need a reason.

It's not even a law, it's a "consumer safety regulation" or some bullshit like that. Basically, the attorney general decided they were unsafe because they have no external trigger or at the time loaded chamber indicator. Of course the Glock 19 is probably the most widely carried pistol in the world and Glocks in general are carried by the vast majority of cops here and everywhere else in the country. But they're still "unsafe". There's not even a pretense of fairness.

I won't bother elaborating on the stupid red tape involved with selling pistols in Mass, most manufacturers whose guns aren't already compliant have taken a pass on making a Mass-legal version. Not much incentive in it for them. Same deal with long guns, in this state the Assault Weapons Ban has been maintained meaning most M4geries aren't Mass legal, so you can only buy from a small pool of weapons. Drop me an email.

I have a POC that can either get you what you need or point you to who can. Thanks, will do. I figured you would but didn't want to bug you with it. The little envelope with the shell casings has the date collected and the serial number of the pistol. That way you can be sure it belongs to that weapon. You should look at the 2sd Gen pistol to be safe.

According to company literature, the first Glock pistols imported into the U. This means for every two letter combination, there were up to 1, pistols produced with numbers from to Most firearm manufactures who employ sequential serial numbering systems would not guarantee the sequence of numbers exactly matches production order but on the longer time frame they generally follow that trend. Notable exceptions to the standard serial number structure are firearms ordered with specified serial number ranges and formats for law enforcement agencies and commemorative models. Using this assumption as a framework, this article will seek to identify changes in individual Glock cosmetic and design features and identify their sequence in the model history. While a strict serial number sequence is an inexact assumption, an accurate time line of importation for serialized firearms can be dated through records available from Glock. Overview of Glock Generations, Terminology and Associated Models Because of the nature of the firearms manufacturing industry, terminology can be inexact due to the influence of non-anticipated design changes, marketing language, and customer terminology not originating from the manufacturer. In some cases, this post production vernacular sets the standard for terminology in use by most. This stands to reason given that the number of people buying, using, and writing about the firearms far out numbers those within the company that might otherwise like to control the terminology. This is how distinct Glock generations came to be understood.

Yeah I'm not worried about it or anything, I like reading about Glock history so I find it interesting to research serial numbers and learning about what was going on with Glock at different points in time. I'm guessing they had some frames that were cracking? I got this from Sportsmansguide so I had no info about what I was actually getting besides a used Gen 3 Glock The night sights don't look oem because there are no markings. Did Glock night sights from that era have markings? I'll probably strip the slide and send it to Glock for new night sights and free slide internals. Click to expand.

Anyone know how I can find out when my g23 was manufactured? I haven't found any website that can help me with a serial number code or anything like that yet. Jan 15, 2.

Log in or Sign up. Thread Tools. Nov 14, 1. A recent Gunbroker auction brought this to mind as well as previous discussions on actual production dates for the earliest Glock 17 pistols. While I believe it is possible for a serial number prefix to have more than one date code it may not be possible to have more than the letter prefix of the serial number available. For posterity I'd like to include all Glock models from around the world. Given the enormous number of model variations and the fact the scope of this thread to to track serial numbers with dates codes, a model number isn't necessary but is encouraged.
